Round 47--Self-Portrait --Group A (7.08)
What if Picasso was a young digital artist living today? I took my inspiration from his collage, 'Man with a Hat', and incorporated a few elements he used in some of his other paper collages such as the newsprint texture. I scanned in 4 different textures and placed them in Illustrator with masked shapes. Geometric abstract line elements were all drawn in the computer. To further my self-portrait the viewer may find the hat is actually a UGA cap, a symbol of my alma mater. Other things I enjoy are my iPod, Coca-Cola, bowling and my Apple products. Using similar shapes near the left side of the face as Picasso's original, one may discover the number '88' (my graduation year from high school).

---------------
For this round I wanted to do something completely without using the computer. I love the printmaking style of the German Expressionists, so I made a linoleum block portrait of myself and printed it on old book covers. Each cover is different and some of you might get a back and some a front. I hand set the type for the club name, my name and web address using a "2000 plus printer 40" rubber stamper. I used a rubber stamp for the "return to" section (not featured on every post card) and hand wrote the addresses. It was fun to step away from my office and create at the studio table this time.

I created my self-portrait in the style of a Leonardo DaVinci drawing. I sketched the objects using a Pentel automatic pencil and scrap copy paper, scanned the drawings and then assembled them in Photoshop. Along with my actual self-portrait, I included objects that represent some of my hobbies: nature, reading, eating, painting and playing the violin.
