Ironically, I'm in the process of designing a wine label at my day job too. So it was a challenge for me to distance myself from those concepts to concentrate on a completely different solution for this project.
I decided on the name Déco with the tagline "The Art of Fine Wine", which references my love of all things Art Deco. I wanted this to be a high-end wine, elegant and bold. But not too stuffy! I did many thumbnails on different deco patterns and themes that might work, but none seemed quite right for my wine label.
Finally, I put the project aside, and as I was driving to work one morning, the concept hit me. Instead of varietal names, each wine would have a more poetic/imaginative name: Mood Indigo, represented by a simple icon of moon and stars, Romance represented by two roses intertwined like two lovers in each other¹s arms, and Jazzy which is a tribute not only to music indicated by the music notes on the label, but also to my dog named Jazz (who passed away a few years ago). I decided on a vibrant and bold color palate of the basic artist colors: red, blue, and yellow. I added a bit of texture to the labels in Photoshop in keeping with my style and chose the classic Art Deco font, Futura, for the type.
