Round 37--Candy Wrapper--Group A (10.06)
My original concept was for a chewing gum called 'Horizon' with a flavor of tangerine ice. The piece was actually digitally rendered and I wasn't satisfied with the final look. The name "Good Boy" popped into my head for some reason for a chocolate candy bar. Maybe it's a treat for a good boy. Images of old French art deco posters and A.M. Cassandre's work inspired me a little with imagery and colors. The fonts are Copperplate and Trebuchet. The candy bar would be sold in specialty stores or high-end food markets.

I love the name Guanabana (a central American fruit with spikes) and that it sounds so much like Guano, which of course is nothing sweet and nothing alike. So combining the two is simple yet gross and fun. I also love purples and oranges and cutout designs for Halloween. Such a fun season.

I wanted to design a postcard that could work as a self-promotion at the same time. I chose the 4 process colors and it was my itention to use more "printing" terms and graphics to complete this postcard. I plan on revising it and using it to promote myself locally.

While researching candy trends on-line for this post card assignment, I came across an article about the practice of washing your child's mouth out with soap and it reminded me of the time my own mom put this into practice on me a long, long time ago. Her attempt, while memorable, failed to cure me of "pottymouth" long term - sorry, Mom. Fizzing candies and breath mints were still strong in the candy market, I also discovered that day, and this is how WashYourMouthT Breath Mints were born.
I created the design in entirely in Illustrator CS2. I designed the top of the tin in which the foaming mints would be packaged. I used the following typefaces: Braddon, Rosewood and Neutra Text.
The back of my postcard reads: "Inspired by my own mom and my propensity to use dirty words... and the latest trends in candy (fizzing candies and the breath-mint craze that never seems to end): Clean up your mouth with soap-shaped foaming mints - all the clean goodness
without the soapy aftertaste. Eliminate pottymouth with a tin-full of
WashYourMouthT Mints. Try them in delicious Mint Foam flavor today!

I had a very hard time starting this. I didnıt like anything I was doing so I opted for physically making a candy bar with plans to photograph it. I knew I wanted it to be chocolate from the start. At first I thought something with chocolate pieces but didnıt like where it was going. My postcard is a result of this: I took a Hershey Bar, broke it to the size I wanted then covered it in wax paper so that that the chocolate showed. Then played around with paper so that it looks like layered ribbons. I used metallic brown, yellow-orange and cream colored metallic papers. Designed the logo in Illustrator & Photoshop also using a photograph of an orange. I choose Chocolate and Orange Peel as my ingredients since itıs my absolute favorite combo. I named it Chocolate Zeste Dı Orange. Zeste DıOrange is French for orange peel. Cıest Si Bon is french for Itıs So Good.
