Lace up your skates and bring your attitude -- Roller Derby is back! I have loved Roller Derby since I was a young, impressionable girl in the "70"s. My idea for this card was to promote a bout between the Sin City Sirens and the Diablo Dames, two fictitious but definitely kick-butt derby teams from the Mid-West Rollergirls organization (also fictitious). The card serves as a promo-- the event ticket is ripped from the left side, attendees get to keep the right side and the Rollergirl illustration is a sticker that they can keep. The back of the card would have more information on upcoming bouts, the Mid-West Rollergirls website and how to purchase merchandise. Proceeds from this event would benefit a literacy program.

Of course being the first round I've done from Rio I chose an event to highlight copacabana's sidewalk, an icon of this city. I've done a series of two, so people coming in couples to the event get to get both tickets that mounts into one.

My ticket is an after-the-fact event. I really did have an exhibit, Catch and Release Retrospective Drawings and Paintings held February 10-17, 2006 at Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio. There were more than 60 pieces of art representing my evolution as an artist, starting with a drawing my parents had saved that I did in childhood up through recent plein air paintings created this fall in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

While it's a little hard to see on the ticket, the "pink" drawing on the left side is the early childhood one, called "Cherry Blossoms" done in chalk on construction paper and the one on the right is an apple orchard from the Santa Fe trip called "Los Luceros 3", painted in oil on gessoed paper.

The backside of the ticket is a local view in Cincinnati looking towards Mt. Adams called "St. Rose 1", again oil on gessoed board. The range of media represented in the show included large color field drawings and paintings, many watercolors, drawings and the recent oil paintings.

While I feel very fortunate to have a good "day job" as a design professional, there is a persistent muse that calls me to drawing and painting. There is a creative and spiritual fulfillment in art creation that is quite different from the design world. Putting together the show was a great experience. I hope to have a website created soon where I can share this work with an even larger audience.

My ticket is for a fund raiser for a zen center. Motifs are taken from the center although the event is fictitious.
