Round 33--Event Tickets--Group A (2.05)

I chose to make up a hypothetical event for a benefit for the Marshlands. The illustration started out with a rough bird sketch representing a crane. I eventually researched the bird on the internet to get the essence of this bird's anatomy and structure like the beak area and the curving 's' like neck. Turtles were drawn from imagination and 2 were added in the stub area as a graphic element but also appear to be in the water. Poster flyers would be printed along with the tickets to promote the event. Jack Johnson was booked and will be performing live with a beautiful backdrop of the Marshlands. Software: Adobe Illustrator 10/fonts: Cezanne and ITC Legacy Sans.

Tickets for "Greenway Park's Carrot Festival"

I wanted to encourage the attendees to save their ticket stubs and remember the festival long after the event was over. It needed to be practical, worth saving and something they could use. Since all attendees shared the same common interest, a love for carrots, I designed a perforated detachable ticket stub that contains a packet of carrot seeds. Planting instructions are concealed on the inside of the stub, revealed after they remove the seeds. I also utilized the back of the ticket by including the festival schedule of events. At a simple flip of the ticket, one can see what time the carrot cake eating contest is, when the parade starts and other festivities throughout the day.

In keeping with the standard ticket size, I created a 7.5" x 2.125" ticket with 4-color printing on both sides. The 2" on the right side folds over to the back and with a single glue line is adhered to create a "pouch" for the seeds to go. The front side of the pouch is die-cut with a circle to expose the seed packet inside. Overall finished dimensions of ticket is 5.5" x 2.125". Removable ticket stub is 2" x 2.125".

Art was painted with acrylic on illustration board. Fonts used are Fresh Fish Special & Franklin Gothic Extra Condensed.

Fundraiser: Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Entertainment: Five for Fighting’ their latest album, The Battle for Everything, is truly representative of the struggle that cancer patients face.

Venue: Central Park in New York City ’ļ a beautiful and intimate venue to bring hope and joy to the attendees.

Tickets: Instead of the usual paper tickets, I felt that the most useful and memorable collectable for a fundraiser concert would be a DVD. Therefore, my event tickets are DVD cases. The design leverages the iconic pink ribbon with simple, yet effective typography. Each case is printed digitally with the ticket holder¬¼s name. Upon arrival at the concert, people will turn in their cases and receive pink ¬„Concert for the Cure¬¾ wristbands. Using the latest DVD burning technology allows for handing back the case with the finished DVD at the end of the evening.

This is my first round and it was a challenge. I decided to design an event ticket for an American Cancer Society benefit. Rather than just raising funds for one type of cancer, this gala would encompass all cancers. Since each cancer is depicted by a different color ribbon I dubbed the event the Kaleidoscope Gala. The wheel on the left spins to show different colored ribbons in the window, each representing a different cancer with the corresponding name on the left. Underneath the window it says, "Cancer effects everyone ... Please wear a splash of color meaningful to you." Since lavender is considered to be the universal color, I designed the card with lavender type; The green is used as an accent color to symbolize life and health.

My son loves board games. We've cut them off of cereal boxes, coloring books and even made quite a few together. This one would be fun to get in the mail. It would have a real, working plastic spinner! The event itself would be even more fun than the ticket...with the Wiggles concert!!

I decided to design a useable bookmark as the invitation to a literacy benefit. The International Literacy Institute is hosting the benefit. Guests will enjoy dinner, drinks, knowledeable speakers, and fantastic talent. I did some research to find celebrities that advocate literacy and some of them are featured at the benefit. The event will be held at the elegant Four Seasons in New York.
